Hydrocephalus is defined as an increase volume of intracranial cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) due to excessive accumulation resulting from impaired circulation and absorption due to excessive production of CSF from choroid plexus. A female infant at 6 months of age, child was brought by her parents with complaints of increased head size since 1 month. Physical examination revealed severe hydrocephalus with head circumference of 46 cm and length 62 cm. Ultrasound examination confirmed bilateral ventriculomegaly. VP shunt (ventriculo peritoneal shunting) was placed to shunt the CSF fluid to peritoneum and haemostasis is secured. The earlier this disorder is diagnosed, the better the chance for successful treatment. Hence, early diagnosis and regular monitoring after surgery is important in patients with hydrocephalus. All efforts should be made for long term follow-up to treat this frequent otherwise dramatic condition.
